Time Travel Tuesday: My So-Called Life Pt. I

We've been watching the deluxe DVD set of the 1994 television series "My So-Called Life" since I got it for Christmas. We've watched everything on the six discs: episodes, commentaries, extras, and interviews. Bless my husband, he claims he's enjoyed it.
I've also enjoyed revisiting the music, which although you can hear it in grocery stores and fast-food places everywhere now, at the time was rather cutting-edge alternative. There is a MSCL soundtrack album, but it does not come close to covering all music that was used. So I'm beginning a three-part series here to travel back to the early 90's as a reminder that one day we may be hearing Burial's "Ghost Hardware" in Home Depot.
None of the songs here is on the official soundtrack album. If you are really into MSCL, this page tells exactly what was happening in the plot when each song was played.
Pilot/Episode 1:
R.E.M.: Everybody Hurts Automatic For the People (1992)
Episode 2:
Jawbox: Cruel Swing from For Your Own Special Sweetheart (1994)
Episode 3:
The Cranberries: Dreams from Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We (1993)
Episode 4:
Bettie Serveert: Palomine from Palomine (1992)
Epidsode 5:
Enigma: Return to Innocence from The Cross of Changes (1994)

Another MSCL fan! :) I reviewed the DVD set back in November when it was first released. I was finally able to retire my old VHS tapes from the show's initial run on ABC. I know some of the people behind mscl.com, and even more from the forum and mailing list affiliated with it. I won't bore you with details, but it's not an exaggeration to say that the show literally changed my life.
oh my gosh...talk about a great show! Love the play list!

Very cool, I'm a big fan of this too, I got the original box set when it came out 3 or 4 years back, one of the best shows. It's up there with "Freaks & Geeks" and "Strangers With Candy" as just a superbly executed show. And like the aftomentioned shows, I wonder if a early death kept these shows from running themsleves into the ground season after season. Although I would have loved to see MSCL go at least 3 seasons.
Can you re-up these songs and the part II and part III posts as well?
Thanks in advance.
I am not planning to do another post on MSCL in the near future because I feel like I've said all I have to say. And I don't reload songs back to old posts because we allow the mp3s to be available for quite a while after posts are published.
We try to support the artists and keep the Forces of Evil off our tails by not leaving songs up forever. That's also why we post links to buy the tracks we post. We pay our own money for most of the stuff we post.
The only time I reposted songs was when I had recorded a concert myself, which made me the only source of those versions. Sorry, and I do hope you're keeping up with our current posts because those songs will be taken down at some point too.
