off of the pile
I have loads of songs I've burned off of compilation discs, or from CDs in which I thought there was only one good song but I never took the time to actually listen to sufficiently, and of course, that I've downloaded here n there. The next three songs were gleaned from one of the above sources.
The beginning of this song starts off nice and soft, all guitar, sounding like it feels to drive through Texas (as we did last year), passing miles upon miles of fenced in nothingness, lovely fields without end. And then this voice comes in and kind of shocks you, hard, rough and not quite singing. Then it settles in and I like it quite a bit. Great name for the band, too.birdmonster: janine
And they've got their own blog, on Blogger. How cool is that? If you're a teenager with a myspace account, you can be their friend, and listen to some streaming stuff on their myspace page. But I didn't bother to link to that one. You can find the link on their blog.
Next, weird intro noises (another favorite of mine) and strangely enough for me, a female vocalist. Or is it a female? Hard to tell. Yep, with the "sha la la" you can hear it's a girl. But nice driving guitar...I can overlook the mistake of having a female vocalist. Just kidding. Great lines: "here comes everybody from the outside/they all want the same things that you hate/turn your face back on and crack a smile/here comes everybody you never cared for"autolux: here comes everybody
Built to Spill is certainly not a no-name band, but I never really got into them. I've heard a couple of good songs by them, but never knew the names and couldn't track them down. I think I pulled this off of a compilation CD somewhere. Maybe not their best, but a good one nonetheless. I like the swirly echo sounds. Best line? "You wait for something that'll make the waiting worth the wait" built to spill: the wait(all links right click, save)

I have this one, and I like it. I like "Going Against Your Mind" too.
I like "Janine" too. Some other blog made a whole post out of songs named for women, and they did NOT have this one! I really like the guitars in it.
