bedroom walls
We always like to spotlight local bands on this blog, and a feature on Highland Park-based Bedroom Walls is long overdue. I found out about this band just after I finalized my list of Favorite Songs of 2006 and would have liked to include on that list "Somewhere in Newhall", a song from their 2006 release All Good Dreamers Pass This Way.
Bedroom Walls consists of Donna Coppola, Adam Goldman, and Melissa Thorne, and their sound is soft and ethereal, almost shoegaze, with just a bit of an edge. There are some lovely bells, strings, vibraphone, and even trumpets on this album, all instruments that I love to hear. BW can be compared to Earlimart, another L.A. band and favorite of this blog. The band garnered some great reviews from Spin, The Onion AV Club, and L.A. Weekly, and has performed on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic (watch and listen to that show here). The band also will have a Pixies cover of "Stormy Weather" on an upcoming tribute album to be released later this year, along with other awesome artists such as They Might Be Giants, OK Go, and British Sea Power, just to name a few. You can pick up a limited edition first pressing from the American Laundromat Records website.
Bedroom Walls will be at the Troubadour in Hollywood on Thursday, June 7 with Let's Go Sailing for their album release - and we will be there too. You can hear some tracks from Let's Go Sailing on their official website or myspace page. Bedroom Walls will also play some additional West Coast shows later this summer and some Midwest shows in September. Check out their myspace page for updated information on their shows.
