Explosive New Stuff
The e-mail box has yielded some particularly tasty music lately. Give these young bands a listen--I think you'll like them too.
Kinetic Stereokids

"Four frantic minds" from Flint, Michigan combine hip-hop influences and loops with Elliot Smith-type emo into an unconventional rock sound. This song has an unnerving repetition of a child's laughter threaded around the vocals. Verrrrry interesting.

Motocade

Motocade, from Aukland, New Zealand, have just released their second EP, called Into the Fall. The jangly guitars and driving beats create a package reminiscent of Franz Ferdinand, and I mean that in a very complimentary way.

Sir Salvatore

What, do I have Franz Ferdinand on the brain? Because there are elements in this San Francisco band that also remind me of FF, particularly the jaunty beats and the vocals-through-a-megaphone delivery. The release party for their brand new EP is today! at The Knockout in SF.

Coyote Bones

This first CD from Coyote Bones' David Matysiak and Mason Brown was actually recorded over months in many towns with the assistance of various musician friends, including members of Azure Ray and Tilly and the Wall. These two songs were recorded in sessions in Athens and Atlanta, GA.
