the nuclear children

This band from Columbus, Ohio has been on my myspace friend list for a while, but I noticed that The Nuclear Children's debut album, Wear Black and Come When We Call was released on September 7. Lead vocalist/guitarist/organist Jason Matthew was kind enough to send me a few tracks and some information about the band, which has seen quite a few ups and downs in their short time together. The lineup consists of Jason, accompanied by musicians Matthew Gene (guitar, organ, accordian), Rory Daniel (bass, keyboard), and Nikolei Mario (percussion).

Their debut five-song EP was produced by Jim Diamond, who also produced albums by The White Stripes and Von Bondies. The Nuclear Children have moments which make me think of classic Brit-Pop, and then another moment evokes San Diego band Louis XIV - each song is different. I love the fact that there are not one but two organists in the band and the great video for "Karma Sutra", which was created by a 14 year old. Check out my favorite song from the EP, about an evil groupie girlfriend and their video for "Karma Sutra".
