Give All To Love
Sometimes a song comes along that is far, far out of my usual listening realm, but it's just so fascinating that it transcends those boundaries. Last year there were two of these: "Keep Going" by Boozoo Bajou with Tony Joe White and "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.
This year it's "Give All To Love" by German singer Niobe from her new album White Hats. I stumbled across it while going through archived All Songs Considered on NPR.com. I am not normally into disco/funk/blues, but I was immediately struck by her lovely voice and the subtle dynamics of this little song.
Languid, smoky, vaguely melancholy, over a hypnotic beat, Niobe's breathy voice weaves entincingly in and out of the background vocals. This is what Billie Holliday might sound like in this century. Take a listen.

Just for kicks, I have editted this post to include:
Boozoo Bajou, feat. Tony Jo White: Keep Going
