Happy Fourth of July

Yay! I love fireworks! Better late than never, here's my set for the annual Independence Day celebration.

First, I can't let the date go by without a song from July Fourth, a Speed of Dark favorite! Buy this album on iTunes; it's all good.

July Fourth: Trapped On the Tarmac from Curtain of Stars EP (2007)

Next, some appropriately-titled songs for the day:

Aimee Mann: 4th of July
Galaxie 500: Fourth of July
X: 4th of July

Then some commentary about America that offer food for thought. First, two Brits express what they see: Mark Knopfler finds a playground; Razorlight sees panic.

Mark Knopfler: Do America
Razorlight: America

Thirty years ago, Stephen Stills lamented the loss of the generosity that once made America proud and respected. In that time, have we gained it back? Think about it--we have an election coming up.

Stephen Stills and Manassas: Do You Remember the Americans? from Down the Road (1973)

Have a happy and safe celebration.
