Computer vs. Banjo

And now for something completely different: the duo of Computer vs. Banjo from Nashville, TN, whose debut CD will be released June 17. Johnny Mann was the lead guitarist of jazz/funk band Gran Torino, and Beau Stapleton played tenor guitar and mandolin for Blue Merle. They trade lead vocals and play a number of instruments, including of course, computer and banjo.
Not every song is a gem on this CD, but on some tracks the blues, folk, and electronics mix most pleasantly into a very interesting melange. "Jubilee," "Lost," "Guitars Need a Sinner's Touch," and "Give Up on Ghosts" are the best examples.

"Give Up on Ghosts" has a modern blues feel to it, but the banjo pays an interesting homage to the classics. It reminds me a little of a song called "Casting Stones" by Wes Tucker and the Skillets, who have a similar low-fi, bluesy sound. It also sounds a little like the new Black Keys album. Good find; I'll have to look these guys up.
