Even the Hangman Has Friends
Hilariously-named Fire on Fire from South Portland, OR, is my newest entry in the New Weird America collection I am currently into. I can't wait to hear the new album Young God due out sometime this year. You can stream several excellent examples on their MySpace page.
Meanwhile, here's my favorite from their 2007 5 Song EP. For the first 35 seconds, you think it's going to sound like the old folk standard "Freight Train" until those ululating vocals come in. Wow! Then fiddle joins the guitars, accordion, and drums. The whole thing just blows me away.
