The Dutchess and the Duke

The Dutchess, the Duke and Donnie
Seattle three-piece The Dutchess and the Duke have been opening shows for the Fleet Foxes on their current tour. These photos are from their show with Fleet Foxes at the Echo on June 28. Kimberly Morrison and Jesse Lortz are the two title characters, with Donnie Hilsdat assisting on percussion.
The band draws its song structures from some of the best early 1960s rock like Bob Dylan, girl-groups like the Ronettes, folkies like Peter, Paul, and Mary, and taking guitar chords from the British invasion that brought the Beatles, Hollies, and Zombies to the U.S. The Dutchess and the Duke take this mixed bag of influences and mold something entirely their own from it, with Kim's sweet harmonies contrasting with Jesse's raspy lead vocals.

Most of the songs in the set are from the band's current CD, She's the Dutchess, He's the Duke. The official release date is July 8, but the band is selling the CDs at their shows now.
