5.02.2008

finally friday

Over the next few days on Speed of Dark, you'll find more of Alt-gramma's amazing photos from Coachella 2008 and reviews of bands we saw there.

Radiohead released the moving anti-human trafficking video for "All I Need" on YouTube. You can watch it here and see MTV Exit for more information.

I'm totally jealous of Aquarium Drunkard on his six-week road trip through the south. Check out his blog for regular updates from the road.

Berkeley Place reviews the two new EPs from Joseph Arthur, demonstrates the correct and proper way to solve a Rubik's Cube, plus reviews of Hello Tokyo and The Weepies.

Can You See the Sunset has bucketfulls of Emo and some great album reviews, one of which stating that the band in question sounds like "The Killers fighting Black Sabbath inside a Central Minnesota grain silo as Mission Of Burma blares from the speakers of a still-running pickup nearby".

Count Me Out highly recommends the new Raconteurs album and has the extremely hilarious and highly recommended video of "Hang Them All" from Tapes N Tapes (featuring the funny side of child labor, unlike the Radiohead video above).

Yellow Stereo has the Daily Graboid and celebrates two years of music blogging. Happy blog-birthday!!

Deaf Indie Elephants has the tracks of Portishead at Coachella. But I've got them in my head. (Gloating over now)

Trendwhore offers a Gnarls Barkley contest and has Wolf Parade's tour schedule (we'll see them in July at the Music Box).

Song By Toad has a scathing review of Scarlett Johannson's covers of Tom Waits songs that's worth reading (as is the rest of the blog). I couldn't be bothered to look up how to properly spell her name.

Thanks Captain Obvious has a video of Bon Iver performing "Flume", my favorite song from For Emma, Forever Ago plus a great April mixtape.

And finally, we had an outstanding experience at Coachella this year. I think that the organizers finally got everything right, including parking, concessions, price of water, incentives to recycle, set up, and even lineup. I was pleased and amazed. Now they just need to do something about the weather.

depeche mode: in your room [Portishead remix] [buy]
wolf parade: secret knives (my fave WP song) [buy]
tokyo police club: nursery, academy [buy]
coldplay: in the sun [Joseph Arthur cover feat. Michael Stipe @ ACL 2005]

Great work on all the Coachella related madness. One of these days I will get to go. Thanks for the Tokyo Police Club track, it's insanely catchy.

Keep up the good work, your stuff is a great read.
