now playing: soundtracks

I love soundtracks. Sometimes I even like the movie to which the soundtrack is attached. Although I didn't like Garden State much, I appreciated Zach Braff's organization of songs and how he kind of crafted the story around them, instead of vice versa. Other movies, like The Wedding Singer, featured music that was almost a character on its own (remember George singing Culture Club? or rapping Granny?).

Enjoy some songs that can be found on great soundtracks and the great movies that accompany them.

the cure: burn from The Crow
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie

radiohead: talk show host from Romeo + Juliet
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie

team america: america, f*ck yeah from Team America: World Police
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie

brothers johnson: strawberry letter 23 from Jackie Brown
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie

psychedelic furs: love my way from The Wedding Singer
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie

colin hay: i just don't think i'll ever get over you from Garden State
buy the excellent soundtrack | buy the so-so movie

air: playground love [vibraphone version] from The Virgin Suicides
buy the soundtrack | buy the movie | or better yet, buy the book

I heard somewhere that "Exit Music (For a Film) from OK Computer was written for "Romeo and Juliet," but there was some mixup or dispute so they ended up contributing "Talk Show Host" instead. Gotta love that beat. And I LOVE the vibraphone version of "Playground Love." Cheers.
