When Doves Cry
The Canadian folk/blues/country/gospel and distinctly unique threesome, the Be Good Tanyas, released their third CD, Hello Love, in October. Although I absolutely adore "The Littlest Birds Sing the Prettiest Songs" from their first album, Blue Horse, I normally would not have been drawn to this CD. It was the whimsical inclusion of a hidden track, a cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry" that got me to listen to it at all.
I can't claim to like the whole album, and that is based far more on my personal taste rather than any argument about the talent of this group, but I do like "Ootishenia" a lot. And "When Doves Cry" gets my vote for Favorite Cover Song of 2006. TBGT manage to retain both the sinister qualities of the original while putting their own unmistakeable signature on it.

Hey, you're just like me!! For some reason, I don't like women singers either. I think I've mentioned that somewhere around here.
